The explosion in use of battery operated electronics is followed by the need for the battery to last longer for convenience, environmental and cost reasons. At the same time, applications become more and more complex and demand higher performance of the microcontroller, making the challenge of designing systems for low power even more difficult.

IAR Systems has been selected by Rescue Alert, a manufacturer of personal medical alert systems aimed at helping people with medical conditions. Rescue Alert’s new product is called the ‘MXD Personal Response System’. It comes in the form of a base unit combined with a small transmitter button worn on a wrist band or on a necklace.

IAR Systems has announced its latest release of IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM. Highly optimised for code size and increased execution speed, it performs up to 13% better on CoreMark benchmarks for Cortex-M0 compared to the previous version of IAR Embedded Workbench.

| IAR Systems and Energy Micro collaboration eases development of ultra low power MCU applications |
IAR Systems has announced its cooperation with low-power MCU provider Energy Micro AS. Energy Micro has chosen IAR Embedded Workbench® for ARM for inclusion in its EFM32 Gecko Development Kit. All code examples for the EFM32 MCU supplied in the kit are based on IAR Embedded Workbench. In addition, customers will have the opportunity to purchase the Energy Micro kit directly from IAR Systems.
