Installing dongle driver 7.5.2 (LMS1)

Introduction

This technical note gives advice on installing version 7.5.2 of the dongle driver, where that dongle driver is the most modern version tested with LMS1.

Note - This applies to versions of IAR Embedded Workbench that use License Management System version 1 (LMS1). (That is, versions released up to 2011-2012.)

Here follows the actions needed in order to use the latest dongle driver.

  1. Check if computer has a more modern dongle driver.
  2. Remove existing dongle driver
  3. Install driver version 7.5.2

1. Check if computer has a more modern dongle driver

Check if the computer does not have a dongle driver later that 7.5.2.

  • Select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
  • Look for items named Sentinel System Drivers

First try to use that modern dongle driver with the LMS1 based product.

  • If that works then stop here.
  • If it do not works, decide if this computer will only use LMS1 based product versions.
    • If the decision is to continue to use LMS2 based versions, then install the LMS1 based version on another computer.
    • If the decision is to use this computer for LMS1, continue to next point.

2. Remove existing dongle driver(s)

In most situations, the LMS1 can use modern dongle drivers, but if it do not work then:

  • Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
  • Click Sentinel Protection Installer
  • Click Uninstall.
  • Important – Are there several items (in Add/Remove Programs) called Sentinel System Drivers, perform Uninstall on ALL of them.

3. Install driver version 7.5.2

  • Fetch the installation media from this link: Dongle driver 7.5.2.
  • Run the installer to install the dongle driver.

Conclusion

This technical note holds the most modern (v.7.5.2) dongle driver tested with LMS1.
