Introduction

We have discovered that Windows 10 version 1803 and USB dongle licenses need a workaround.

Discussion

The message from IAR Embedded Workbench can look like this:

Failed to obtain feature 'ARM.EW.DEBUGGER'

The workaround is to configure Windows 8 compatibility mode.

  1. Right-click the IAR Embedded Workbench icon on the Windows start menu
  2. Select More > Open file location
  3. Right-click the IAR Embedded Workbench shortcut
  4. Select Properties
  5. Open the Compatibility page
  6. Choose Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 8
  7. Click OK

Eclipse

Do the same kind of actions on the eclipse.exe icon.

Conclusion

This issue has been corrected in IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm version 8.30.1 and newer. For older or other versions of IAR Embedded Workbench, use the workaround. The issue has been acknowledged by our License Management Partner and will be fixed in future releases.
