Introduction

The command line for Build actions can use Argument variables.

Discussion

Issues can for example be:

  • I want shorter/relative paths for my build actions.
  • My Argument variables are not evaluated as I expect.

Solution

Try using Argument variables in the text box specifying the build action.

Background

Argument variables (See Help > IDE Project Management and Building Guide for more info, including list of available ones) allow certain paths to be relative.

Argument variables are not Environment Variables, in other words, Argument variables are not automatically available for evaluation inside scripts.

Example

See Technical Note 95375 where part of the solution is to use a build action.

Conclusion

The command line for Build actions becomes clearer with Argument variables.
