Introduction
If you are using an IAR Embedded Workbench released before June 2018, USB dongles may not always be found on Windows 10 version 1803, 1809, 1903, and newer. This is only a problem for dongled licenses when using an older version of IAR Embedded Workbench.
Discussion
The message from IAR Embedded Workbench can look like this:
Failed to obtain feature: "ARM.EW.DEBUGGER".
The feature is not licensed to run on this machine.
Could it be a dongle problem? Status code 0x6.
It can also happen during a License Activation.
Missing dongle: The dongle for "Product" (S/N 1234) was not found.
IAR Embedded Workbench
The easiest workaround is to install a later version of our Embedded Workbench, released after June 2018, which has a fixed USB-driver included. That driver will then also work with older releases, prior to 2018. Alternatively, you can run the old Embedded Workbench in Windows 8 compatibility mode:
- Right-click the IAR Embedded Workbench icon on the Windows start menu
- Choose More > Open file location
- Right-click the IAR Embedded Workbench shortcut
- Choose Properties
- Open the Compatibility page
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for: 'Windows 8'
- Click OK
IAR License Manager
Perform the corresponding actions on the LicenseManager.exe
icon.
Eclipse
Perform the corresponding actions on the eclipse.exe
icon.
Conclusion
All IAR Embedded Workbench releases from June 2018 and later include the correction. For older versions of IAR Embedded Workbench, use the workaround.
